A day in the life...

Nothing fancy, just a smattering of my thoughts and adventures here in the last frontier.

More of Port Graham

We went out 4 wheelin a few times I've decided it's a lot of fun. With the colder weather the snow had gotten harder but not hard enough for a 4 wheeler. I can't remember where we were headed but we didn't get too far. Me all bundled up for 4wheelin.

Mt. Iliamna

The last couple of days we had were gorgeous, clear and cold. We headed out seal hunting again, this time just the 2 of us and Coal. Once again we didn't see any seals but according to Storman's uncle it's because they were all mating by the islands.

Port Graham

This past weekend I went home with Storman to Port Graham, a village of 173 on the Kenai Peninsula. We drove to Homer and then hopped on this tiny plane. We picked up one passenger in Seldovia before landing in Port Graham so there was 5 including the pilot. I got to sit up front on the way to Seldovia and then I had to move way into the back for the next leg to PG. It was really windy and rainy and the back seat didn't have a shoulder belt, just the lap belt so I got bounced around a lot by the turbulence. I like turbulence but I'm glad it was a short flight. (If you fly directly to PG it's about a 15min flight.)

As you can see the weather was not ideal but we made it in safely to PG.

The second day in PG I got to go out seal hunting with Storman and his dad on the condition that I didn't ask to go back cuz I was cold. I didn't even bother trying to act offended since the likelyhood of me being cold is always high, however I'm stubborn and decided I could and would tough it out if I did get cold. This is a picture of the cannery and the hatchery as we came back in and yes I did get cold and lost feeling in my hands for a short period but I did not complain for I had come prepared with hand warmers! (Hand warmers and I are close friends, I should buy stock in them. )Not the best picture but the cannery is on the right and then the village is straight back and also to the left. If you squint you can see houses in the spots without trees.

Storman looking for seals. It was really wet and windy out and all we saw were tons of sea otters. Considering it was a grey day and seals heads are grey I don't know if I would have been able to spot one even if it did pop it's head up. Alas I didn't the chance to find out. Maybe next time.

Soggy Eagles

Scraggly looking isn't he? Storman and I had some time to kill before catching our flight to Port Graham so we checked out the eagles on the spit in Homer. The "Eagle Lady" feeds them during the winter and there are tons of them. We did a quick count and got 30 but there were lots more behind us. It was a nasty rainy day, perfect for flying...

Links

Will wonders never cease! I, Nathania, computer illiterate have managed to add links to my blog page and there was no yelling or cursing at the computer involved. It's amazing what one can do when instrustions are found and followed =0! Enjoy!!

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was headed out for a hike when I met this fellow as I came out of my driveway. He was huge!

We've had tons of snow the last couple of weeks, not sure if you can tell from these pictures, so I decided to go for a hike and try out some new gear I got. It was super cold as you can tell from my lovely frosted hair but I stayed warm! There was a wonderful sunset which I would have taken a picture of but my camara didn't like the cold at all =(! Oh and I love carharts!!!!!!!!!!!

Feathery Friends

These birds aren't afraid of much, I can walk right up to the window and they stay put. I don't get a big variety of birds, lots of chickadees and these ones which I think are some sort of sparrow. They like to squable over the seeds.
