Wine Tour - Traverse City

Last weekend Storman and I took a trip back to Michigan to go on a wine tour of the Lelenau Peninsula with friends and to enjoy the fall colors that we don't get up here in Alaska. We had a great time, although I was hoping for some of the 80 degree weather they had been having but I suppose high 40's and 50's is better than 20-30's! We rented an awesome house at The Homestead, just outside of Glen Arbor (that accomodated 12, it was sweet) with a great view of the lake and surrounded by fall colors. Most of the 12 were from MI but Sam also flew in from Texas for the occasion.

We headed up early early Friday morning with Shawn, Curt and Andrea and had a great time catching up, exploring The Homestead and ODing on delicious cherry products at The Cherry Republic! The Traverse City area is known for it's cherries so we sampled cherry wine, cherry salsa, various choc. covered cherries and cherry cookies to name a few. So very delicious!!! It was supposed to have rained all weekend but friday was warm(er) and clear! Sat. started out dismal, good thing we were just hopping from winery to winery but ended with clear skies, an amazing rainbow and a gorgeous sunset! My favorite winery was Black Star and I'm pretty sure it was Storman's favorite as well. You should ask him about the Pear Brandy =)! We came home with 9 bottles of wine which thankfully all made it back without breaking! It was a quick trip but a much needed break from work and so great to catch up with family and friends who live so far away.

Sam and our mass oh wine at Black Star! What can I say, we enjoy our wine. Kara and I outside Chateou Chantel one of our last stops. I was a little wined out at this point but suffered through a few more samples! =)

A few shots of the fall colors that don't do any justice at all but better than nothing!

This was our view from the house. So gorgeous! Curt, Storman and Shawn looking for the "stream"they heard. Sadly it turned out to be a sewer drain, ha ha!

Shawn really wanted this piece of driftwood for his office but it was extremely heavy and a little larger than he thought. Needless to say it stayed where it was but it was amusing watching the guys trying to get it out!!

At The Glen Arbor Winery at 11am. We were dedicated tasters!!!

Halloween

Aren't they cute!!! Sara, Logan's Mom made the duck costumes and did an amazing job on them. Lilian did not like her hat at all but loved sliding along on her big belly!

I was the human body courtesy of my friend Heidi, she did an awesome job. I'm not that creative and I will admit lazy!

Tamsin, aka the mouse carrving a fake pumpkin. What will they come up with next.
Sara, aka black cat. The boys were boring and didn't dress up at all!
